It can be costly to replace your sump pumps, but if you are proactive, you can prevent too many problems from happening all at once.
When it is strong enough, a summer storm can knock out the power in your home. Dealing with a power outage is never a pleasant experience, but it’s nowhere near fun if you need to figure out how to reactivate your sump pumps, too.
Your Sump Pump
Even if you’ve had the same sump pump installed for the past few years, it may be time to replace it. After all, it could have failed and you wouldn’t have known it, even with regular inspections to check on its condition. A huge storm could have easily flooded your basement, and that’s the moment when your sump pumps weren’t up to the task. It can be costly to replace your sump pumps, but if you are proactive, you can prevent too many problems from happening all at once.
Restoring Power
Luckily, even if your sump pump is down for the count, all is not lost. You can easily restore its power or find another way to approach the flooding problem that has affected your home. Keeping a second pump that still runs on electricity is great for just such an occasion. Even so, if there’s no electricity available, neither of your pumps will work. You’ll need to find something else.
Battery-operated pumps work even better, because they won’t need electricity in order to work. A third solution is to find sump pumps that activate when they encounter surging water. These are known as hydraulic sump pumps.
Even battery-powered sump pumps can run out of energy, and when there’s no electricity to recharge them, you might be out of luck. But when you have a hydraulic sump pump, that is something you won’t have to worry about anymore.
