3 Ways to Tell if Your Drain is Clogged

4 Ways to Tell if Your Drain is Clogged

Do you have a clog in your plumbing?

Have you noticed that when you take a shower, the water seems to just stay put? Although you might think the drain is blocked by pieces of soap or clumps of hair, the problem could be much deeper than that. Here are some other ways to tell if your drain is clogged.

The Drain Doesn’t Work

The easiest way to determine if the drain is clogged is whether or not it works as it’s supposed to. Test the sink and tub in your bathroom, and then in your kitchen. If you have a deep sink in your laundry room, then it is worth it to test that out as well. Doing all of this can help you figure out where the clog has occurred. You can use some simple cleaning measures such as vinegar and baking soda to help clear out your drains. Long-term use of chemical cleaners can actually damage your pipes, so it’s best to avoid their use.

Presence of Insects

If you hear an odd knocking sound behind your walls, then it might be a sound you have an unwanted guest. Mice, rats, squirrels, and raccoons are all active this time of year and might have found a way inside your home. Once there, they’ve probably started damaging the pipes. You might also be visited by a swarm of cockroaches, which is never pleasant. All of these visitors could be contributing to the bad smells coming out of your drains, too.

Strange Smells

Do you always come home to find your home full of strange smells? This is a sign that something is wrong with your drains – particularly if a sewage backup has entered your system without you knowing about it. If you’re unsure whether or not sewage is the real culprit, then it’s time to call in help from the experts at Alpha Plumbing.
