If your ice maker is malfunctioning, then it’s time to find out why.
One of the best parts of summer is sitting outside on your patio with a tall pitcher of lemonade or iced tea. But those drinks aren’t as enjoyable without ice, especially on a hot and humid day where you need to cool off desperately. If your ice maker is malfunctioning, then it’s time to find out why.
When Ice Isn’t Dispensing
Normally, your first instinct would be to call for service. However, there are some things to do first. Check the ice mold, especially when ice isn’t dispensing. There might not be anything wrong with the ice maker’s water supply. There could just be a mechanical problem instead. For instance, maybe you turned the control arm off by accident. Find it and turn it back on, and the ice should start dispensing again. There’s also the possibility that something has gone wrong in the electrical system. Empty out the ice maker and unplug the fridge. Then make sure the water supply is off. Make sure all of the connections are in place.
No Ice Being Made
Then there’s the problem of no ice being made at all. There could be a clog in the line somewhere. This problem is often caused by frozen water. You’ll have to move the refrigerator out from its alcove and turn it off. Turn the shut-off valve to the off position. Try defrosting the water line using a hairdryer. Then turn the water back on and water for the ice to start forming. If that doesn’t fix the problem, then it’s time to call the experts.
Oddly-Shaped Ice Cubes
One final issue that can present a headache is when all of the ice cubes aren’t the same size or shape. Adjust the ice maker. Use a screwdriver to move the face plate and get to its inner workings. You will see a set of screws and springs. You will also see a plus and a minus. Screw the minus symbol to decrease the amount of water in each dose or screw the plus to increase it.
