Essential Spring Plumbing Maintenance Tasks to Complete

Spring Plumbing Maintenance Tasks

Get your spring plumbing maintenance tasks completed once the snow starts melting!

Despite the recent snow storm, spring weather has already visited the area over the past few weeks. Pretty soon the warmer temperatures will be here for good, and with the changing of the seasons comes a new opportunity to do some plumbing maintenance. Performing regular spring plumbing maintenance tasks is just as important to the function of your system as winterizing tasks! Here are four spring plumbing maintenance tasks that you should be doing over the next few weeks.

Yard Work

Most people would probably not think of their yards when thinking about how they can help their plumbing systems, but it is a critical part of the health of their systems. Check your downspouts and storm drains and clear them of any debris so that rain water can drain effectively from your roof and property. This will help protect your property from flooding and relieve some of the pressure on your sump pumps.

Faucet Check

Both your indoor and outdoor faucets should be checked for low water pressure as this could be a sign of pipe leaks. Run all of them on hot and cold water. Your outdoor faucets may take a few minutes to dispense water since they have been turned off all winter, but once the air has worked its way out the water pressure should return to normal. If there are any problems, call in a professional plumber to take a closer look.

Toilet Check

Checking your toilet for leaks is simple – just drop a few drops of food coloring into the tank and wait a few minutes. If the water in the bowl is still clear, your toilet is functioning properly. If, however, the food coloring made its way into the bowl, you have a leak and should get it taken care of promptly.

Water Heater Flush

Implementing your annual water heater flush as part of your regular spring plumbing maintenance tasks is a good idea. This removes sediment and buildup in your tank that can reduce the longevity of your water heater and make it less efficient.
