Why Your Refrigerator is Leaking

Why Your Refrigerator is Leaking

It’s one thing when your refrigerator won’t close all the way.

It’s one thing when your refrigerator won’t close all the way. You just have to pay attention to what’s going on. What is something that is even worse? When it starts leaking. It can be hard to tell where the leak is coming from. Here are some reasons why this is happening

The Ice Maker and Water Dispenser

The leak could be coming from the front of the unit or from the back. You need to find out where it is coming from before you can do anything else. The leak could be caused by the ice maker. If it’s not that, then the water dispenser is to blame. Plumbing connections will fail over time, and that could be the source of the leak. Find it and deal with it. Do this by unplugging the fridge and moving the unit so you can see behind it. Look for suspicious cracks and leaks in the lines. Two other solutions exist: tighten the connections or get old parts replaced as soon as possible. If that isn’t the problem, then the leak is coming from somewhere else.

Defrost Drain

The defrost drain could also be the culprit. There might be a blockage that needs to be resolved. A chunk of food or a block of ice might have clogged the defrost drain. This is another problem that is hard to find and even harder to identify. That’s part of the reason why you need to have professional expertise on your side. If the leak is coming from the crisper drawers, then there’s a good chance that the drain needs to be unclogged. This is something where you will need help.

Getting Professional Help

Sometimes, making any repairs will just be beyond you. Some leaks are just too difficult for the average homeowner to address.  That’s when you need to get a professional plumber to come out and help you. They can find the leak and fix it for you, at no hassle to you. Now isn’t that a reassuring thought?
