A dripping faucet is a fairly common problem that should be remedied as quickly as possible.
A dripping faucet is one of the most annoying things that can happen in your home. The steady noise from the drip can make nights sleepless. In addition, a dripping faucet can lead to water stains or even flooding in your bathroom or kitchen if not taken care of, not to mention how much water is wasted as a result. Do you know why you have a dripping faucet? There are 4 common causes of it.
1. Parts are Damaged
This is the most common reason for a faucet to start dripping. A steady drip is often a sign that a washer within the tap needs to be replaced. Also, the seals inside of compression faucets are prone to damage because they are under much pressure in holding back the flow of water.
2. Cartridge is Worn Out
Cartridge faucets occasionally need their cartridges replaced, and the indicator for this is that the faucet will start dripping. Make sure you replace the cartridge with one that matches your faucet exactly.
3. Water Pressure
If your faucet drips only during certain parts of the day, it may be the case that your water pressure is actually too high. The pressure may prevent water from flowing away at one point which then backs up and leaks out from another point in your home. While the dripping is not serious, you should contact a plumber to reduce your water pressure slightly before more serious problems develop.
4. Broken Plumbing
A broken pipe or fitting is a more uncommon but possible reason for your dripping faucet. Usually, the cracks that develop on these fixtures can leak out into the area below the sink. However, if problems develop with the water pressure as a result of these cracks, the faucet connected to the broken piping may drip occasionally. If the causes listed above can be ruled out, this may be the problem, and a plumbing professional should be consulted.
