Toilet clogs are a fact of life for everyone. No matter what kind of toilet you have, eventually you’re going to have to unclog it! Many plumbing problems are best left to professionals, but unclogging your toilet is a job that, more than likely, you’ll be able to take care of yourself. Here are 4 of the best methods to use to unclog your toilet.
If you don’t have a plunger at home, a clogged toilet should be a sign that you should go out and buy one! Having a plunger handy is the best way to save yourself the trouble of cleaning up a flooded bathroom that might result from a clog. Use a little bit of Vaseline around the rim to ensure a good seal, get a tight fit at the bottom of the bowl, and plunge away. Take care not to splash the water out of the bowl, and you should unclog your toilet in no time.
2. Homemade Clog Cleaner
You could also whip up a homemade unclogging solution with some baking soda and vinegar. Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then let it cool for five minutes. Add a cup of baking soda and then two cups of vinegar to the toilet bowl, then pour your warm water in and let it sit for several hours. If the clog isn’t too bad, you should be able to flush your toilet again afterward.
3. Plumbing Snake
If you have access to a plumbing snake, you should be able to take care of even the most stubborn of clogs. Feed the flexible end of the snake into your toilet drain until you hit the clog, then twist the handle to break up the clog. Take your time when taking the snake out – if you go too quickly, you’ll end up spraying dirty water all over your bathroom!
4. Call In a Professional
If none of these methods work or if you need to unclog your toilet all the time, a professional plumber may be able to help. They can take a look at your toilet and come up with the best solution to ensure that it gets fixed up!
