4 Common Myths About Dishwashers

4 Common Myths About Dishwashers

Your dishwasher is a valuable part of your kitchen!

How old is your dishwasher? Are you thinking about getting a replacement? If you are, then there might be some myths you’ve heard about. When you’re not sure whether or not to believe these myths, you’ll either do what you can to find out the truth or continue to follow. Here are four common myths about dishwashers.

Pre-Rinsing is Necessary

You might just use your dishwasher to sanitize your dishes. In that case, it means you still wash your dishes by hand most of the time. At least, you do this to get grime and food particulates off. But pre-rinsing isn’t as necessary as you might think. The detergent won’t have anything to do!

They’ll Ruin Your Utensils

This is another myth you shouldn’t believe. There’s a basket for the utensils you want to wash. If you’re including chopsticks or sharp ceramic knives, you might want to play it safe so you don’t damage the pointy ends of the knives. Most forks and spoons can rest in the basket comfortably, just be sure to put them in with their handles down. The opposite is true for knives – blades down, handles up.

Anything Can Go In

Not everything you use is dishwasher safe. That means you’ll have to read care instructions when it’s time to load your dishwasher. Be on the lookout for whatever items are recommended to be washed by hand.

Dishwashers and Sinks Have Different Pipes

This myth might be a little less common than the others. Still, you can probably see the logic behind it. Dishwashers and kitchen sinks actually do share the same pipes. Clogged sinks will present a problem, as well broken garbage disposals. So if you run into any problems, you know who to call!
