Here are some easy ways to sanitize your dishwasher.
It’s the holiday season, and if you are dreading the amount of dishes left behind by your next family meal, you don’t need to worry. After all, that’s what your dishwasher is for! But after Thanksgiving came and went, did you feel as though you dishwasher wasn’t doing the best job it could cleaning your dishes? Here are some easy ways to sanitize your dishwasher.
Plug Your Sink
The first step involves plugging your sink. What does this do? Think of the sink as a tiny bathtub that you can fill with warm, soapy water. What you should do next is detach the filter from your dishwasher and give it a thorough cleaning in the sink. Your dishwasher’s filter could use a bath from time to time, along with several other detachable pieces you can find inside the appliance.
Detach Removable Pieces
The utensil basket and the lower dish rack can be both be removed. Once you remove them, take a closer look to any food crumbs or any gunk left behind by dried sauce. Clean off this detritus before you restore the dish rack and utensil basket.
Use the Hottest Water
Set your dishwasher to the hottest water setting you can find. Make sure you also select the longest cycle possible. When water starts pouring in, open the door to pause the machine’s operation. Add about two cups of white vinegar and then let it continue for the next half an hour or so.
Brush It Down
If you have a spare toothbrush, then it might be a good idea to grab it before you follow this next tip. Using the toothbrush, proceed to scrub down the entire dishwasher. Make sure you pay attention to the drains, the hard to reach corners, the soap dispensers, and any tiny gaps you can see.
