Keep Your Plumbing Safe this Spring and Summer

Keep Your Plumbing Safe this Spring and Summer

Your home’s plumbing isn’t indestructible.

Your home’s plumbing isn’t indestructible. If you can’t remember the last time you had it maintained, then it’s probably time to schedule an inspection and repairs if they are needed. In the meantime, here is a look at what you can do to keep your plumbing safe this spring and summer.

Don’t DIY

You might think of yourself as a do-it-yourself wizard. But when it comes to plumbing, it’s much smarter to let the professionals take care of it instead. A short-term solution to any plumbing-related problems can only last so long until they start to contribute to whatever is wrong. When you let a professional plumber handle it, you’ll get your money’s worth and reassurance that whatever the reason for your trouble is, it won’t come back.

Avoid Chemicals

The next thing to keep in mind is this: avoid pouring chemicals down your drains. These chemicals are, in theory, supposed to unclog the pipes, but in the long run, you’ll be in for a nasty surprise. That’s because the fluids can damage the pipes, corroding them or chipping away at their integrity without your knowledge. If you can’t get rid of a clog, then this is a sign you need a plumber to help you. Trying other methods might seem like a bright idea, but the odds are good that you’ll only dig yourself deeper instead.

Roots Ruin Pipes

Although this is the time of the year where your trees are loving all the sunshine that hits your yard, there is something else that you won’t enjoy. That is because tree roots can ruin your home’s pipes. They cause leaks, backups, and water damage. Because they are so destructive, there’s not much you can do by yourself. In this case, hire a plumber to use a rooter tool that goes into the pipes and repels root invasions.

Trash is Trouble

Finally, take a minute to reflect on how much trash you produce. While this might not seem relevant, it can become a problem if you depend on your plumbing to dispatch the trash. Grease and bones can cause enormous damage to your home’s plumbing. Plus, flushing things down the toilet that are not meant to go there will also cause more problems.  It might be easy, but don’t give into temptation!
