How to Get Rust Off Your Bathroom Fixtures

How to Get Rust Off Your Bathroom Fixtures

Get back those shiny faucets!

Your bathroom is a very humid place. Between the long, luxurious showers, bath times, and shaving (plus brushing your teeth!), it’s no surprise there’d be rust getting all over your bathroom fixtures. Here’s some advice on how to get rid of it.

Scouring Pads

Keep a stack of ordinary kitchen sponges in the bathroom. Believe it or not, cutting grease on your pots and pans works much the same way as getting rust off your sink faucets, bathtubs, and toilets. Then again, you might prefer to use similar products to get the rust off. One suggestion is to use steel wool. Still, if you would prefer to stick to scouring pads, the best part is that you can rinse them off and use them again next time.

Pumice Stone

Pumice stone is also incredibly useful for removing rust. It’s quite gentle and works great on porcelain. Much like the scouring pad, you’re going to need to put some effort in, but this is another affordable option that can help keep your bathroom sparkly clean without making your bank account cry.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is another idea to try. Combining lemon juice and salt sounds like the first step in a tasty recipe to serve for a backyard party this spring, but when you use this trick, you’ll notice that the rust goes away faster. The key is to give this blend some time to work its magic. You’re better off using this substance on relatively flat surfaces, such as sinks and tubs. It might not be the best choice for toilets, but that’s where cleaning chemicals come into play.

Chemicals

Whether you deliver it by a wand or a spray bottle, cleaning chemicals can also help you clean rust off your bathroom fixtures. Hydrochloric acid is going to be your best bet, as sometimes, even bleach won’t get the job done. Find out which method works out the best for you and your family.
