Avoiding Common Plumbing Issues

Avoiding Common Plumbing Issues

Call the experts at Alpha Plumbing to keep your plumbing running smoothly!

Now that spring has come, you might be wondering how to save some money. Well, that starts with taking a good look at the performance of the plumbing systems in your home.  Leaks, clogs, and cracks can cause all sorts of headaches for you. Here’s how to avoid those problems going forward.

In the Bathroom and Kitchen

Look at every faucet in your home. It doesn’t matter if the faucet is in the bathroom or the kitchen. Sometimes, the leak might also be coming from a deep sink in the laundry room. Investigating the source of any plumbing problems is the first step in saving more money than you might think. Fix any leaks that you find to prevent mold and mildew-related problems. You should also check the toilet for any possible leaks as well. Do what you can with the water supply valves that feed sinks and toilets to get rid of rust, mineral buildup, and hard water. Clean out the drains and make sure there isn’t any debris left behind by hair, dirt, or soap scum.

For Heating and Appliances

Now it’s time to move onto the other areas of your home. First, your water heater needs some attention. Drain some of the water in it, but don’t flush it out; this reduces the sediment in the bottom of the tank. Also, if your current water heater is more than 15 years old, then it’s time to replace it with a more advanced one. Make sure you empty the lint trap of your washing machine and the trap for your dryer, as well. Also, it’s now to make sure that your air conditioner is working as it should.

Everywhere Else

Before turning your hose to start watering the lawn or washing the car, make sure that there aren’t any cracks caused by freezing temperatures or cold water. Then, check the sump pump to make sure that it’s still working fine, and test the water supply valve. Finally, inspect the gutters, downspouts, and drains around the outside of your home to double check that they aren’t clogged or damaged.
