The water line connecting your business to the municipal water supply is your first plumbing link to your business. It provides all the potable water to your business for drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing and flushing. This pipe can be referred to as your water main, water service or your water line.
No matter what the name, your water service runs from the main shutoff valve inside your business to the pigtail on the county/city’s water meter. The water main must also be installed (in our area) at a minimum depth of thirty (30) inches in order to be below the frost line and keep from freezing. Your existing pipe is typically made of copper, high-density polyethylene (HDPE), ductile iron, galvanized steel, or polybutylene (AKA poly-blue, poly, or big blue).
Copper HDPE and ductile iron have proven to be reliable pipes for this purpose. Galvanized piping, which is no longer installed in this application, has a life expectancy of 50 – 70 years but also deteriorates over time reducing water pressure and flow rate. Polybutylene piping has proven to be a failure and needs to be replaced (for more on this topic see: Polybutylene Pipe Replacement).
Regardless of the type of pipe providing water to your business, when it fails, it needs to be repaired. You may have water bubbling up from the ground. Or you may not see any water, but your water bill just shot through the roof. Perhaps the water is seeping into your business. Maybe the city or county told you it’s leaking. That’s where we come in. Contact us and we’ll come to your location and provide a free estimate for your commercial water service repair.
We specialize in commercial water service repair in and around the Baltimore and Annapolis Metropolitan area. Our teams of skilled operators and mechanics use the latest technologies in order to minimize intrusion into the area surrounding your property. Trenchless technology is great if you have concrete or asphalt that you do not want to disturb. Using this technology also saves you money by cutting down on excavation time and landscaping costs and other post-job repairs.
These technologies Include:
- Trenchless Missiles—These shoot under driveways, parking lots, and concrete pads minimizing property damage.
- Pulling Cables —To pull a new water service through your existing service.
- Excavating Machines—We have a top-of-the-line Case 580SL backhoe for large jobs and a Case CX-36 mini excavator for those jobs that are in tight locations.
How will we provide commercial water service repair? It depends. Every situation is a little different. Sometimes we simply dig a trench from the point your water line exits your business to the water meter. Other times, we may use trenchless methods. We can use a pulling cable to pull the new water service through the existing water service.
Alpha Plumbing can also use a boring missile to go under obstacles such as driveways. We’ve also simply driven a hard copper pipe underneath obstacles like porches and steps. Our goal is to minimize damage to your landscape, hardscapes, sidewalks, driveways, and building structure (anything expensive or inconvenient to restore).
