Quick question: do you remember the last time you got a new water heater?
Quick question: do you remember the last time you got a new water heater? If you don’t, then it’s probably time you started to think about another replacement. Nothing lasts forever, and that holds true for all of the plumbing inside your home. So, how do you know it’s time to get a new water heater before the end of the year? Let’s find out!
It’s Too Old
The buildup of rust and other debris can slowly gather in your water heater. Don’t let your water heater get too old since once it wears out, it won’t be as effective. On a cold day, nothing is better than a hot shower, especially after spending several hours raking leaves or shoveling snow to open up a path for your pets or for your car. Water heaters shouldn’t be kept in service for longer than ten years.
It Makes Weird Noises
Weird noises are spooky. When you hear odd noises coming from your water heater, it means something is wrong. Under normal circumstances, your water heater should be one of the quietest appliances you have in your home. When it starts to speak up, then you know it is starting to give up the ghost. Maybe there’s too much sediment, or the water pressure is simply too high. Either way, it doesn’t need to work as hard as it does. If repairs and preventative maintenance aren’t working out, then it could be time to accept that you need a new water heater.
You Saw Leaks
Leaks are bound to happen. Leaks can come from any plumbing fixture, pipes, or appliances found in your home. When water heaters leak, they are losing efficiency and driving your water bill sky high. This can’t be allowed to continue. The metal expanding and contracting can eventually cause a hole to form. From this hole, the water will leak out. When nothing is done to patch up this crack, it will only start to spread until your water heater stops working.
