3 Places A Plumbing Clog Can Occur and How to Find Them

Any part of your home’s plumbing can become clogged!

Plumbing clogs are annoying. But you never know what could cause them, and sometimes, you might not be able to find them. Still, that doesn’t mean all hope is lost. Here are some places around your home you should investigate if you think you’ve found a plumbing clog.

Bathroom Sink

Start by running your bathroom sink. Once the water is on, let it go for about a minute or so. Don’t shut it off too soon, and don’t let it run for too long either. While you do this, keep an eye on what your toilet is doing. If the amount of water in the toilet bowl is rising, that’s a warning sign of a plumbing clog somewhere along the line. The same is true is you see bubbles forming because that’s something that shouldn’t be happening.

Washing Machine

Not all plumbing clogs will happen in the bathroom. Go into your laundry room and put a load of laundry into your washing machine. Stay nearby and watch what your washer does. Once it reaches the point in the cycle where the water starts emptying out of the drum, look at the drains around the washing machine. These drains might be interfering with shower heads and faucets elsewhere in your home. If you’re satisfied there isn’t a leak or a clog in the laundry room, go back into your bathroom.

Toilet

Once you’re back in the bathroom, examine your toilet. Before you flush the toilet, see how much water there is in there. Then flush it and see how much water is still in the bowl when the flushing ends. If you see more water after flushing, there’s a blockage. Even if there is less water in the bowl, that doesn’t mean you’re in the clear just yet.
