We Can Connect Your Ice Maker, Refrigerator, and Dishwasher

When you purchase a new ice maker, refrigerator, or dishwasher, we understand that you want to get it connected right away. The convenience of each appliance cannot be overstated. Your ice maker will deliver an abundance of ice for your home or business. Your refrigerator can deliver a constant flow of ice and cooled water. And your dishwasher needs a hot water supply and a drain to make your cleaning duty simpler. You may already have a supply valve in your wall or under your sink or perhaps you need us to install one for you.

Typically, an ice maker supply valve will require a 1/2″ pipe to be brought up in the wall behind either your refrigerator or ice maker. The valve itself will be a 1/4″ valve to make the final connection. If you don’t want to have your drywall disturbed many times a 1/4″ line can simply be run from an unfinished basement plumbing pipe.

A tee will be installed in the existing pipe, a shutoff valve will be installed next followed by the line running up through the floor and to the appliance. Another option is to run the connection through kitchen cabinets from the sink cold water pipe. This will require drilling through the cabinets and the line will be visible in the bottom, and back of the cabinets.

The dishwasher connection also requires holes to be cut into the cabinet walls to accommodate both the water supply and the drain. This too is a 1/4″ connection, so either a dual valve is added to the hot water supply or a separate valve is installed there. Many dishwashers come with tubing to connect the supply and the drain. The supply line is typically universal, but the drain hose may be proprietary.

Previous plumbing code required that an air gap be installed on the countertop for the drain hose. This is no longer required, but the hose must be looped up to the top of the cabinet to prevent backflow into the dishwasher. If you have a garbage disposal the drain hose will plug into a special fitting built into it.

It’s important to make sure the knock-out plug is removed from the disposal to ensure water can actually drain into the disposal. If you don’t have a disposal a dishwasher tailpiece will need to be installed in your drain piping to accommodate the dishwasher drain hose.
