From Install to Repair - Your Commercial Water Heater Specialists

Commercial water heaters are in many ways like their residential counterparts only they’re heavy-duty! Most businesses with commercial water heaters depend on them to keep their business operating. Downtime has to be minimized. Many commercial water heaters are also operated at temperatures above that which causes burns when hot water makes contact with human skin.

In these situations, any hot water that may potentially make skin contact will be run through a mixing valve which mixes cold water with the hot water to bring the temperature down to a safe range before the water reaches a faucet. Although some businesses choose to use residential water heaters in lieu of a commercial water heater, it should be realized that doing so voids the warranty on the water heater.

For over 30 years, Alpha Plumbing has been providing expert commercial water heater services to clients throughout central Maryland, including Catonsville, Crofton, Millersville, Odenton, Severna Park, Glen Burnie, Annapolis, Severn, Arnold, Pasadena, and Baltimore. If you need a new commercial water heater Alpha Plumbing can help. Here are some things to consider:

Commercial water heaters come in many brands and models, but they can be categorized into the following major types: Electric, Natural Gas & Propane, Tankless and Solar. Alpha Plumbing generally supplies and installs State water heaters (A brand of AO Smith). State water heaters are readily available at our supplier and we have found them to be very reliable. Additionally, the manufacturer stands behind their product. That said, if you have a particular water heater that you want or have acquired we will do our best to accommodate you.

Electric Commercial Water Heaters

Commercial electric water heaters come in a range of sizes, phases, and voltages. They make use of one or more heating elements which, in most cases, are each controlled by an individual thermostat. The water heater also has a dip tube that allows cold water to enter from the bottom of the water heater and not cool the hot water in the top of the tank as it enters.

Gas Commercial Water Heaters

Commercial natural gas water heaters and commercial propane water heaters come in a range of sizes. The difference between these and the electric models is the gas burner in place of electric elements. Gas water heaters also need a way to vent the exhaust fumes from the building.

The most common method is to use an atmospheric vent making use of galvanized piping that connects to a chimney. Another method is to use a power vent water heater and PVC pipe to vent the gasses typically through an outside wall or the roof. Still, another method is to use a direct vent water heater that uses concentric vents to both bring fresh air in and allow exhaust gasses to be expelled.

High-Efficiency Gas Commercial Water Heaters

High-efficiency gas water heaters provide additional energy-efficiency primarily by modifying the internal flue design which provides a greater heat transfer surface.

Tankless Commercial Water Heaters

Electric tankless water heaters are designed according to the amount of hot water required at peak use times. The water heater has a series of heating elements that are activated based on the demand. As water demand increases more elements are activated. As a result, the electric tankless water heater requires a 240 Volt circuit for each element in the water heater so an electrician may also need to be involved in the project.

Gas tankless water heaters operate by heating the water as it passes through the natural gas or propane heat exchanger.

Solar Commercial Water Heaters

Solar water heaters use the heat of the sun to heat water. We do not install solar water heaters.
