Make certain to disconnect garden hoses and drain and shut off outside faucets during the winter.
If it gets intensely cold, run a little bit of water from each valve in the house. This will keep it from freezing over.You can also open cabinet doors under sinks on exterior walls to allow warm air from the house to circulate and help keep sink pipes from freezing.
Septic System
There are a few basic rules for keeping your septic
system healthy.
1.) Have the tank pumped and cleaned every 2 to 3
years.
2.) Conserve water to avoid flooding the system. Fix
leaks, stagger laundry loads each day, avoid long showers,and install water saving
fixtures.
3.) Do not pollute or clog your tank with hazardous
chemicals or non biodegradable elements.

Kitchen Sink Stoppages
 The most used drain in the house is the one in your
kitchen sink. Sink stoppages are usually caused by liquid fats, emulsified by warm
dishwater and carried through the pipes. The water cools as it goes to the main sewer and
leaves fatty deposits along the way. Bits of food add to the accumulation until the pipe
is blocked. Pour excess grease into a tin can and throw it out with the
garbage.
Leaks
 Repairing leaks prevents more damage to fixture, faucets, and
your surrounding walls and cabinets. A leaky faucet can waste up to 1,200-2,500 gallons
of water a year.
Test the toilet for leaks, too. Put a drop of food coloring in the
toilet tank. If the color shows up in the bowl, your tank is leaking, and you could be wasting
up to 200 gallons of water a day.

 If you have a garbage disposal
always let enough cold water run to carry the particles down and into the main line to
prevent buildup in the smaller waste lines. You can clean your garbage disposal by adding ice cubes and running the disposal. For foul odors, drop a wedge of lemon down the disposal and run with water, leaving a great fresh smell.
Cleaning Toilets
 Toilet bowl cleaners that are placed "In- the-tank" normally keep the tank and bowl clean, but it will actually shorten the life of the parts inside because the chemicals in the tablets begin to eat away at the rubber flapper This will result in premature failure.
